Flandrien CC is Kirkland, WA’s Flemish-hearted road club — currently two riders and recruiting. We ride the kermesse format: a brisk loop, one good beer, home by dark. A flandrien rides in the rain and says little — Flemish shorthand for grit. Perfect for a Northwest winter.
The bouncer
Pro-level bikes, ridden by people with day jobs and strong opinions about tire pressure.
This is not a no-drop ride: bring the legs for 16–17 and a bike that works. We regroup at the summits — usually. Nobody’s chasing a contract, and nobody gets excluded for their gear. You want fitness and the table of people to share a dubbel or a doppio with afterward.
The weekly ride
From Chainline Brewing — the Kirkland Urban taproom
A brisk evening lap around Lake Sammamish — Bellevue, Factoria, Issaquah, then up the east side through Redmond — and back to Chainline for one good beer. Hard loop, one beer, home by dark.
We’re starting with one night a week and building from there. A Saturday long ride is coming as the club grows.
The fit
And you’re not apologizing for it. You have opinions about tire pressure and whether bar tape should match the saddle.
Comfortable holding 16+ mph (26+ km/h) on the flats for long stretches, riding predictably in a group, and getting yourself home if the day goes badly.
You want the workout and the company — one good beer or a doppio, and the debrief that comes with it.
Phone, tube, route on your computer. Come fit and self-sufficient and the “not a no-drop ride” rule never applies to you.
Who it isn’t for: racers hunting a contract, and anyone in a hurry to leave the table.

On the calendar
Small group, one overnight. Glacier, WA base, Artist Point at sunrise, frites somewhere if we can find them. 2–3 trips a year, this is the first.

All you get is the title
Join in the first season and you’re a founding rider, which comes with nothing whatsoever except permanent bragging rights. We think that’s the right price.
